A
note from Angela on the TriYoga Workshop – Soho – London 2006:
My early memories
of SOHO, when I taught at schools in London during my 20’s and later during brief visits between our busy teaching
tours, was a place to avoid if possible. It seemed dark, dirty
and ‘sleezy’! It was the “Red Light” district
off Piccadilly Circus. So it was quite a surprise to be invited
to teach at a Yoga Studio in SOHO!
Even more of
a surprise awaited us as we entered a bright and modern courtyard,
surrounded by cafés juice bars and small boutiques. We
climbed some stairs to the third floor. Each floor has its
own outside balcony walkway, so youcan look down on the chairs and
tables of the cafés and sample even more shoes and clothes
stores, a massage place, and at one end – TriYoga Studio,
which occupies the whole of one side of the third floor. It
is bright and colorful with books and products in the windows. Inside
you feel immediately at home – white washed, wood floors, friendly
staff and a beautiful teaching room – long, white with high
windows, some of which have coloured glass hat enable patches of
bright colours to spread across the floor when the sun shines. On
Saturday, with about 45 students mostly Londoners, but some from
other countries – Italy, Ireland, USA, we launched into our
approach to the inner body, with rooting and perineum work and of
course the breath. The group was enthusiastic and many came
up afterwards to ask questions and share their own yoga experiences
of how they had felt the need to move away from the rigidity of most
methods taught, to a more intuitive, creative and personal practice.

Sunday
was a lively session with waking up the “Perineum Power” to
achieve lightness and clarity in ‘full arm-balance’ and
other inversions. There were lots of questions and interchange. In
the afternoon we explored alternate nostril breathing (without
using the control of the fingers on the nose), shoulder releasing,
front bending, and finished with a grand session of spontaneous
chanting. |
We
look forward to returning to TriYoga in
August.
