The World Inside

Monika Andreas

The first time I did a workshop with Angela and Rama Joti Vernon was at the Feathered Pipe Ranch about 35 years ago. I felt like I had a rebirthing experience and from that point on went to Molivos for the three week courses to hang out with Angela before Victor came on the scene.

I remember using the vegetable man, early in the morning, as my alarm clock as he passed by my room shouting, "Tomatas, Mellonas, etc.", that meant it was time to walk to Angela's yoga center, up the hill, to gather in order to climb higher to the castle before the sun got so hot making it impossible to do yoga inside or outside in June on the island of Lesvos in the village of Mlivos. I loved the village then, when the locals still transported their goods on the backs of donkeys, instead of the noisy motorcycles that came along later.

Each time I went to Molivos I had some personal transformational experience. I remember after the long three hour morning class, overlooking the blue waters, that merged with the blue sky and being blissed out from the fabulous openings that Angela's yoga creates, I stayed with one of my yoga buddies from Germany (Peter) and we did some partner poses. All of a sudden I was taken over with uncontrollable laughter. He laughed with me for a while, but I could not stop laughing. During that laughter came a clear message that my children would be just fine. That is why I had gone to Greece that summer, in order to find an answer, as I was contemplating a divorce and would become a single Mom with three sons to raise. (Those sons are 43, 40 and 33 years old now and they are great men, good Fathers and fine husbands.) Thanks to my yoga practice and teachings, I was able to do a great job raising my three sons.

I returned to Molivos many more times (even to have a wedding there in June of 1990 where Angela and Victor were invited of course) , however, I also studied with Angela and Victor in Hawaii, Australia, Yellow Springs, Ohio, Chicago and I have attended several of the "all women retreats" at Harbin Hot Springs with Angela, which is like going to heaven. What I enjoy the most is the fun and laughter, all the creative expression and catching up with other followers, from all over the world, and getting and giving hugs to so many like-minded souls. (I can't wait to go back to Molivos possibly this summer.)

Being part of Angela and Victor's community has given me many gifts and influenced my teaching tremendously.

I thank them from the bottom of my heart and I thank Patricia for organizing many of these wonderful events.
